Generator Size Calculator

Add the appliances you need during a power cut and find the running and starting watts your generator must supply (230 V).

What you want to powerWattsQtyHours/day

How it is calculated

Running watts = sum of all appliances you run at once. Starting watts = running watts + the single largest motor surge (fridges, pumps and compressors start at 2–3× their running watts). We add a 20% safety margin. Fuel use (litres per hour) is estimated at typical half-load consumption for a generator of that size. Never run a generator indoors or in a garage – carbon monoxide kills.

Results are estimates for planning, not bills or professional advice. For generator hookups use a changeover switch installed by a qualified electrician.
