About Us

UK Power Cut helps people across the United Kingdom find out quickly whether the power is off where they are, why, and when it is expected back – and what to do in the meantime.

What we do

  • Official live data. Every few minutes we collect the planned and unplanned power cuts published by the UK’s electricity network operators – SSEN, National Grid Electricity Distribution, UK Power Networks, SP Energy Networks, Northern Powergrid, Electricity North West and NIE Networks – and show them by postcode, with properties affected and estimated restoration times.
  • Reports from neighbours. Anyone can report a power cut or restoration for their postcode in one tap, so an area’s status is visible even before an operator confirms it.
  • Help in a power cut. The free 105 number, emergency contacts, the Priority Services Register, compensation rules, safety advice and calculators for generators, batteries and bills.

Independent and free

UK Power Cut is an independent website. We are not a network operator or energy supplier and we are not affiliated with Ofgem, the Energy Networks Association or any government body. The site is free to use and is supported by advertising. Network operator data is used under each operator’s open data licence and credited on every page where it appears.

How accurate is it?

Operator data is refreshed every 5–15 minutes and can lag slightly behind the operator’s own website. Neighbour reports are signals, not confirmations. Read how it works for the details. To report a power cut, always call 105 (free, England, Scotland and Wales) or NIE Networks on 03457 643 643 in Northern Ireland.
